Unleash 8.0
We’re excited to share that Unleash v8 is live, and that our favorite event of the year, FeatureOps Summit, is just around the corner. Let’s dive in!
Unleash v8 is live
v8 ships our most-requested release management capabilities as generally available, opens the remote MCP server for production use, and adds streaming between Unleash and Edge. It also brings a smoother onboarding flow and a single, clearer access overview for admins.
Automated release management is now generally available
Release templates, impact metrics, safeguards, and milestone progression are now generally available. Together they replace manual rollout steps with a closed loop: define a release template once, attach impact metrics from your SDK or your existing Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics instance, and let Unleash advance, pause, or disable a rollout based on what your application is actually reporting.
Trade the tickets, runbooks, and Slack threads for a release template that drives the rollout for you. Releases can follow the same repeatable steps, with safeguards you tune for each rollout. If your metrics stay healthy, the rollout keeps progressing on its own. If something spikes, it pauses instantly.

Remote MCP server is now generally available
The remote Unleash MCP server is now generally available. Your developers’ AI assistants can connect to a server hosted by your Unleash instance, no local installs required.
That gives you a choice: run the MCP server locally for individual, hands-on use, or go remote when you want one centrally managed, governed entry point for the whole team. Either way, your assistants create flags, wrap changes, and clean them up inside the guardrails you set.

Streaming between Unleash and Edge in beta
Unleash Enterprise Edge can now hold a persistent connection to Unleash instead of polling, so flag changes are pushed to your Edge nodes as they happen. That cuts replication lag from your polling interval down to near real time. Streaming is available on managed and self-hosted Enterprise Edge. Join us for a live demo at FeatureOps Summit to see it in action.
The small but good stuff
- A new flag type for retiring features. Meet sunset, our latest feature flag type, built for deprecations. It keeps new users from adopting a feature you’re removing and lets you reduce usage gradually, with the option to pause or re-enable if needed.
- A guided start for new projects. A step-by-step setup checklist and a contextual banner on the flag page help new users go from a fresh project to their first live metrics. The SDK connection wizard guides you each time you connect a new SDK.
- Redesigned access overview. Admins get a single, clear view of a user’s instance and project access, so reviews and audits are easier to run.
- Open source moves to AGPLv3. Starting with v8, the primary Unleash repository and the unleash-server npm package move to AGPLv3. Docker images, SDKs, Unleash Enterprise, and Unleash Cloud are unaffected.

Join us at FeatureOps Summit 2026
June 23, 2026 · Virtual Event
Our annual user conference is back, and this year it’s built around one tension: speed without control is a false economy. As AI-generated code and autonomous systems pile on delivery pressure, the summit is the day we get practical about shipping more while breaking less.
This year, we’re bringing three concurrent tracks, so you can build your own day:
- Why FeatureOps? How leading teams put FeatureOps to work, across regulated environments, AI in production, and the everyday culture of shipping with confidence, with speakers from Visa, Wayfair, Lloyds, and Allianz.
- How to get the most out of FeatureOps. Turning FeatureOps from a tool into a practice: change management, platform engineering, and scaling adoption across the org, with speakers from The AA, GlobalLogic, Medidata, Samsung, and more.
- Technical deep dives. The Unleash engineering team on feature management beyond flags, autonomous FeatureOps, compliance by design, a field guide to feature flag anti-patterns, what’s new in v8, and a look at what’s next for Unleash.
Plus fireside chats across the day, including FeatureOps for CTOs with AWS and a look at why the best teams ship on Fridays with Heidi Waterhouse, author of the Progressive Delivery book.
There’s more to the day than the talks. We’re giving out the first-ever FeatureOps Awards and have a few other surprises in store, so it’s worth getting involved. We’re also bringing you social lounges to give you the option to meet other attendees and swap stories from the field.
It’s free, it’s virtual, and it’s the best day of the year to connect with the FeatureOps community.
